What on earth does pizza have to with goals for 2014? A lot, and not just for those who love to eat it.
Because this post about characters and my “little at a time” pizza analogy doesn’t just work for characterization.
It works for goals and resolutions, too.
Back when Long Ridge still ran an online newsletter, Mary Rosenblum, the webmaster there, held a Persistent Writer contest almost every year. Whoever submitted the most manuscripts to magazines, won. Getting the pieces published was great, but didn’t factor in. And she made no secret why she did the contest.
But this is a Decode–with information both fiction writers and copywriters can use.
The point of all of this is one word…
That’s what Mary R. was after at Long Ridge–getting writers in the habit of writing and getting those words out, without getting hung up on the outcome.
And copywriters can certainly use that–with marketing, writing, and more. One email, one research session. Split things up, come back later if you need to.
So whether you’re writing stories, emails, trying to shed pounds, or what-have-ya, one thing at a time is the key.
Just like one bite of pizza is better than inhaling a whole pie in 10 minutes.
And if you get sidetracked from your goals and resolutions, oh well. Tomorrow is a new day, and your chance to start over and do a better job.
Until next time,
