Revise Your Writing, Or Eat Vegetables?

Bit of a strange title, I know.

I’ve talked a little bit about revision this week, and I wanted to ask you…

Do you enjoy it? Going in for the bird’s-eye view to see if things flow correctly, or as well as they can, followed by the tightening of the grammar and spelling nuts and bolts?

I think a lot of people think of the revision process like they might think of broccoli or celery…

In other words…

No thanks!

As far as that goes, I have a love/hate relationship with revision at this point (and yes, for those of you wondering, I like broccoli and celery).

I know that revision has to be done to make things stronger, and I find that letting things rest helps me put a fresh mind to the details of a story, email, script, or what-have-ya.

But sometimes editing feels like a slog. Then again, that’s nothing a change of perspective won’t fix. Maybe if I thought of it as “exercise” for the writing itself, to make it stronger? I don’t know. Trimming fat, building muscle (seemed to make sense as a metaphor when I wrote it).

What do you think of revising, whether you write fiction, emails, or other persuasive or entertaining writing?

Drop me a line and let me know, okay?

And as always, make it an awesome weekend, too.

Until next time,

Ty
