Seeing How The Other Half Lives…

Sound familiar? I always took it to mean wondering how girls live life if you’re a guy, and vice versa…if it means something else, someone please let me know.

I kinda ripped off this idea from a news report I heard a couple days ago on Fox about a guy who literally asked online what being a woman was like.

A bunch of women told him all kinds of useful things about clothing, useless pockets, being underestimated constantly, and what-have-ya.

But that’s not my point, for today.

This is Fabulous Fiction Friday (a.k.a. Triple-F). We have to use this theme.

We just gotta.

It’s too good to pass up.

I think we already have used this theme, on previous Triple-Fs, but I’m going to feature it today.

So, here it is, your prompt for this week…

You’re doing your best, but you can’t seem to get ahead. After digging around, you find out that everyone identifies solely based on gender. Since you think this is dumb, how do you get ahead in life, and distinguish yourself?

For those of you who thought “he might say to imagine that I’m the opposite gender”—all right, I thought of doing that. You got me there.

Then I decided to do something unexpected—and a little too close to real life, probably.

This is fiction.

There are a bunch of ways we can mix this up, but remember that gender is only part of the equation in life—a big part, but a part nonetheless.

You don’t have to have a human character for this, either. Have fun with it.

Coming at things from different angles—man, woman, head-on, indirectly—will help you get ahead. Especially if that entails finding out how and why other people think the way they do (good for both copywriters and fiction folks).

Because YOU have to think like YOU. And that’ll help, no matter if you write stories, books, emails, or video sales letters. Nobody combines your particular strengths and processes, likes and dislikes, other than you.

July is over half done. I’ve already had experiences this year that I can’t forget. And I hope you have too—especially the good kind.

If you’d like to add to the discussion, drop me a line in the comments.

And make it an awesome weekend, okay?

Until next time,

About Ty Mall

Thanks for stopping by. I've almost always been interested in writing, among other things. Along with discovering pop culture, I've uncovered a lot about the craft over the past 10 years. And whether you're a fiction writer or email copywriter, I'm here to pass on what I've found out. And have a ton of fun in the process.
