How’s it going? Hope you had a great week. An earthquake shook California—in the Napa area I think it was. It was an awful, expensive mess, with big aftershocks, according to the news.
It’s amazing how something like the ground beneath our feet, and something we take for granted, can be upended so fast, and so violently.
I think that it’s inspiration for living the best life we can, while we still can. And I never trivialize suffering–there are times I do my best to turn things around, and that’s what I want to do here–even though, deep down, I have no idea how it is to be directly involved in an earthquake (although aftershocks are another story, strangely enough for the Midwest).
Here’s today’s prompt for Fabulous Fiction Friday:
Write about an accident.
That’s it? Yeah. You can write a story about yourself, a friend, your dog; on your way to the grocery store, the doctor, the Moon, wherever. Mix it up any way you’d like. Write a present-tense tale with only dialogue; or a past-tense tale from the perspective of a space lane traveler to Venus in the year 9010 (and along the way, tell everyone how humanity got that far, from here).
Oh, and have fun…that’s the whole point here, truthfully.
And here’s a secret I have to tell myself a lot: Nobody will see it—so write something. It may be awful—or it may be bad only to YOUR eyes. That’s a distinction that needs to be made—it’ll help you get better and/or get reviewers’ opinions.
But what you write for this prompt, I (probably) won’t see.
It’ll be September by Monday, next week.
Make it a great weekend with good memories, all right?
Until next time (or next month),
