How’s your week been?
It’s Triple F, and that means a new prompt.
I was thinking about characters, and trying to put a spin on it. Having a character want something, only to find they’re repulsed by it (I may do that one, with restrictions, in another prompt sometime).
Or having them get a drink of water, and have something weird happen.
Maybe that was because I’ve been doing a lot of nonfiction editing this week, I don’t know. Looking to break out the fiction brain, maybe?
So, for Fab Fiction Friday this week, we’ve got:
Write a story with a character in a totally unfamiliar location. The only thing that is familiar to your character is the neighbor’s cat.
And now it starts…
Okay, is the character male or female here? What type of character is he or she? Calm and confident? Or screaming-their-head-off panicked, and banging into alley walls and trash cans as they try to get away from their plight, only to realize escape ain’t happening?
Or is this character an alien, or a robot? Or an alligator alien fresh out of the factory?
Where is this setting, and why is it unfamiliar? Is it a strange town–or does the character find out that the town IS familiar, but they’ve only seen it at night (or during the day)?
By the way, don’t ask me why I came up with that one.
How about the cat? Why is the cat familiar? And what part does it play? Does it go for help? Or try to get the character food? Or just rub up against the character’s leg (I’d almost be willing to bet on that last one)?
I didn’t say that the cat had to help the character out–it could hang on the character’s leg and cause them a whole bunch of pain. I also didn’t say what season of the year this was.
Having a kitty claw your sweatpants is a lot different than bare legs, that’s for sure.
Those details are for you to decide. Helpful kitty vs. unhelpful, or telepathic vs. robotic kitty (maybe the tail sprocket needs oil and the cat planned to be there).
All right, I think I’ve given you (and myself) enough ideas for now.
The first week of March 2015 is almost over. Hope you had a great one.
Make it an awesome weekend, with good memories, all right?
Until next week,
