How’s your week been? I’ve been up to the same old, same old–editing, polishing, trying to get a couple blog posts on here, and what-have-ya. It’s striking to me how routine life can be sometimes. But if you’ve read my posts for any length of time, you know I think that can be a good thing, a lot of the time.
And if you’re here for the first time and didn’t know that, you do now.
Anyway, let’s get to it.
Today is Friday, which means Triple F, aka Fabulous Fiction Friday, which means a writing prompt to wrap your brain and pen/keyboard around. We’re coming up on number 20 in the series–after that, I’m thinking of switching gears.
Here we go:
Across clue 1: Alligator relative (6 letters)
Across clue 2: “The Beverly Hillbillies” dad (3 letters)
These clues don’t intersect.
What happens next?
The fun stuff…
Okay, I have “caiman” and “Jed” here, for these.
Now, we’re running into that fan fiction jazz again, mostly because Jed is someone else’s fictional character. So I’m going to do what I talk about here, and use a situation from the universe instead–one piece of the puzzle.
(Which is why I think settings are so cool. Although I’ve written a bunch of posts about that, especially earlier on with this blog).
Okay, so Jed’s daughter, Elly May, loves animals. But since I’d like to do a science fiction/fantasy plot with these prompts, we’d have to steer of any utterly normal stuff–like Elly raising a whole bunch of caimans for the fun of it.
Unless they mutated when exposed to something–maybe we could make it Mr. Drysdale, the banker.
Okay, so mutated caimans. We could also make Jed the main character–okay, maybe not. But character is suggested here, and if we include the caimans, a bit of the plot maybe is too.
So we could have a male character dealing with caimans. Do they produce some kind of excretion that’s necessary for human survival, or that’s become necessary for some reason or other?
Have humans discovered how to synthesize the scales to make some kind of mystical armor? What could possibly go wrong there? How is it powered? What’s it good for? And why should anyone care?
Mystical caiman armor? Hmm. Sometimes even I’m a bit weirded out by what I come up with.
All right, then. Today marks the end of the first week of December.
Make it an awesome weekend, with good memories, all right?
Until next time (and week),
