How’s it going? It’s June 1st today, officially. Not often I get to blog on the actual first day of the month, and I think that’s pretty cool. I’m on to my writing projects since I’m finished with an edit, and that leads me to the post title.
First I have to tell you something else. I took an online course to learn how to write novels, which some of you may know.
Well, I finished the course yesterday. A lot of it was stuff I’d learned in other parts of my book learner-ing, but other things not. I decided to do something that I don’t think I’ve ever done before:
Go over the entire course one more time before/as I implement it. To actually sit there, with the handouts or what-have-ya, and follow along. This way, I can get things really cemented in my head (no pun intended).
I’d heard a copywriter talk about this technique a lot, and I’d hardly thought of trying it. Until now.
Something as simple as going over something more than once can have a lot of benefits. Things like:
Having a clearer grasp of parts that were confusing/stronger grasp of those that were fine
Picking up on advice or parts of the material that got missed because you were concentrating on another part, because you’ve never heard/read the material before
Make the material “part of you” that much faster, so you don’t have to think as much about what you’d read or watched, because you can just do it
I know that’ll all make me more confident, to boot. This won’t guarantee results or anything, just mastery of the book, course, CD lessons, or what-have-ya (which is why you’d have to be careful who you learned from–the subject for another post).
For me, I’ll be taking things slow, because this course has exercises, which I’ll try to do as I go along.
This applies to any material on any subject you want to learn, so this is more of a general thing (I’ll probably line up my copywriting training materials to go over a second time).
If you’ve never tried the technique of rereading or re-watching something, go ahead. See where that takes you.
Until next time,
