Triple F: It’s What and Where…

How was your week? Mine was sorta wild–we got socked by thunderstorms/tornado warnings Wednesday night, and the power was out from then until Thursday afternoon. After that, I got the secondary laptop back from the shop, with a fresh hard drive installed.

Which was good. Very good.

Since I wrote about Jack Aiello, I figured humor was a great starting point for Triple F this week.

So for Fabulous Fiction Friday, your prompt is:

Your character says or does something funny, but what makes it funny is where they are when they do it.

Humor’s something we have to be careful with, especially since it’s really subjective and lead to hurt feelin’s. You’ll have to sketch out character gender, backstory, and what-have-ya. This would be an awesome time to slip in a story or two in the sketch about why/how the character tries to be funny, or something funny that happened to them sometime.

It could be something as simple as being funny when everybody expects your character to be serious.

How about:

An alien goes into a coffee shop, sees that they serve a lot of android folks, and then looks at all the different flavors of nuts and bolts on the menu. When someone at the counter asks him what he wants, he says, “Do you serve whole machines here?” or “I’d like to put a spring in my step, could you help me out?”

Or maybe there’s a serious meeting, and when the vice president comes in a little late, and carrying a snack, someone tells him “I didn’t know you’d been demoted” or “Looks good, where’s mine?”

It might be a little lame, I don’t know–probably. When I try to be funny, or plan things out, it never works out funny, not usually anyway.

That’s probably where I should close for today.

June’s about over, and summer is officially here. Relax, and delve into some projects too.

Make it a great weekend, with good memories, all right?

Until next time (and week),

About Ty Mall

Thanks for stopping by. I've almost always been interested in writing, among other things. Along with discovering pop culture, I've uncovered a lot about the craft over the past 10 years. And whether you're a fiction writer or email copywriter, I'm here to pass on what I've found out. And have a ton of fun in the process.
