How was your week so far? I know it’s almost over.
I learned the outcome of a contest I’d entered a couple months back or so–I didn’t win anything. And I also blogged about summer and the reason why I don’t like it.
Your prompt for Fabulous Fiction Friday is:
Your character is in a contest. If they lose it, they won’t be able to participate in one season a year of their lives, for the rest of their lives.
Seems like a pretty good science fiction/fantasy plot here–but no gender, backstory, or what-have-ya. So those pieces are yours to create and weave throughout your story. It’ll also be up to you to figure out what “not participating” means.
I’m sure a lot of people will be able to pull off a normal people/normal things setup here–I’m going to try not to be one of them.
A robot is playing a game of chess with an alien life form who’s just learned it? What if the alien is the main character here and he or she won’t be able to report back to the Mother Ship with pertinent info if they get locked away for one season a year–that happens to be “report season”?
A girl skilled at telepathy has to predict the landing spot of a ship she’s never seen before, staffed by pilots she’s never met–or risk being forever cut off from her family at the peak of the hydrogen season–when they need her most.
(I think I was kinda inspired by thoughts flying around because of the science fiction writer who won the grand prize at last Tuesday’s webinar).
It’s the first week of August, and I’m about to launch into the second phase of my newest project. I’ll keep you posted on what’s happening as we’re going along (and in several weeks–you’ll finally figure out what I’ve got cooking).
Make it a great weekend, with good memories, all right?
Until next time (and week),
