How’s your week been so far? I’ve been working away at my nonfiction book idea while my children’s book is back to my illustrator. Not to mention doing more reading, writing, and what-have-ya.
I thought about my endeavors over the past week, and about things out of my control, and how things may or may not go, and thought I’d used it as fodder for Fabulous Fiction Friday.
So I will.
Your prompt for Triple F this week is:
Your character is cursed to write out exactly what they think whenever somebody asks them a question.
I said cursed, so you’ll have to come up with why that is. As well as everything about this character. I’d been envisioning a character who couldn’t talk for some reason or other, and had to write out everything, but you could make it a seeming compulsion or obsession instead (think of the hand cramps during an interview). How would friends and family react to this “unique” behavior? And if the thoughts/words were totally unfiltered, would that make things better or worse?
You’ll also have to figure out who did the cursing, and how/if it can be reversed. Is your character willing to do what it takes?
Okay, how about:
A woman’s family and friends are so turned off by her oddity that they abandon her? She has to live on the street and take donations like a carnival sideshow. Who cursed her, and why? Does the bum who keeps throwing change in her box and asking her the same questions over and over have something to do with it?
Or how about a radio guy gets cursed, and has to do his entire show in type, or be assisted by a couple people, now that things have changed? How would that make him feel? Refreshed because he can say exactly what he thinks and has no other choice? Or guilty because he’s so used to filtering everything he says for the air?
Okay, that’s enough to get the snowball rolling down the hill, so to speak.
There’s about another week and a half of August 2016 to go.
Make it an awesome weekend, with good memories, all right?
Until next time (and week),
