Triple F: Thirteens Everywhere?

How’s your week been so far? It’s almost the weekend, so let’s get to it for today.

Today is Fab Fiction Friday, which means a fiction prompt.

Since this is something I’ve hinted at here on the blog or thought about myself, I’m finally going to write about…

Triskaidekaphobia…fear of the number thirteen.

The only other place I’ve actually mentioned Friday the 13th is over this way…and the prompt at that link wasn’t even about that (it was one in my Crossword Clues series).

And today’s actually Friday the 13th (and Orlando Bloom’s 40th birthday–something you can put in the prompt below if you want to–kinda like fan fiction and all that).

Without further ado, your prompt for Triple F this week is:

Think of an alternate explanation for the origin(s) of Friday the 13th, and put it into a story.

And I’ll leave the historical references for you to discover over this way (including a strange reason why Italians think 17 is unlucky instead). And that’s beside the biblical and historical reasons (those Templar Knight dudes being the historical one).

Okay, on to the fiction.

What if…

Friday the 13th was the date of an alien invasion? Or the day technology took over the world? Were humans able to fight back? What happened? You could go in so many different directions…what if Kamenos is one of the aliens who sympathizes with the “witless” humans? What would he do? What would happen to his 90 alien wives as a result?

Or how about Friday the 13th being the day that someone started a new job? (Rregular people doing regular things here, now). Wouldn’t that be something awesome to celebrate? What if Katie got the job because everyone else didn’t want to come in to work that day, and she succeeds in erasing the trend, because she becomes ruler of the world, or what-have-ya? Seems wild, but this is fiction, so take it wherever.

All right, that should be enough to get the mental snowball rolling down the hill, so to speak.

January 2017 is edging toward half over. I’m also planning to debut a special feature on my Instagram page, hopefully next week. Stay tuned for that.

Make it an awesome weekend, with great memories, all right?

Until next time (and week),

About Ty Mall

Thanks for stopping by. I've almost always been interested in writing, among other things. Along with discovering pop culture, I've uncovered a lot about the craft over the past 10 years. And whether you're a fiction writer or email copywriter, I'm here to pass on what I've found out. And have a ton of fun in the process.
