How’s your week been? Mine’s been really wild. I was able to get both submissions sent in (one for the middle-grade adventure fiction contest, and one of the coauthor competition). So that was good.
Tuesday night we were without power for about two hours–a tornado ripped by, nearby. I did some shopping on Wednesday, and I noticed trees all along the way, after downtown, that had been ripped up like twigs, or cracked–one guy’s yellow garage had been crunched as if a giant hand had twisted it to its side until it broke.
And what was weird was that the traffic lights after downtown were shut off (not blinking or flashing, but totally turned off), and there were barricades, cop cars, or both blocking all the teeny side streets.
I’m hoping that everything is cleaned up fast and everyone’s okay again as soon as possible.
As far as Triple F, I’d like to use a bit of this for the prompt.
So, your prompt for this week’s Fabulous Fiction Friday is:
Your character notices something’s off. What is it, and how do they know?
For real life, I was visualizing all those cop cars and tiny side streets, but this is fiction. It’ll be up to you to figure your character’s gender, backstory, and what-have-ya, as well as what/why/how they notice what’s a little off, and then what they do about it. Things will also be determined by what’s “normal” behavior for the characters around your character.
Claire notices that Benji isn’t eating his space rations, and he loves to snack on the space-time continuum. Why is that? How do they know each other, and what’s their relationship? Are they part of an advanced time-traveling civilization who needs to snack on bits of space to maintain power?
Or maybe Darius figures out that someone is interested in somebody else because of how they act–maybe he sees Chloe agree to do something with someone that he knows she hates to do–like horseback riding, because she’s terrified of horses. Or maybe she’s just trying to get over her fear. Or maybe it’s the first part of an alien plot to lure humanity to its doom (sorry, couldn’t resist the sci-fi/fantasy angle there).
Well, that’s enough to get the mental snowball rolling down the hill, so to speak.
March 2017 is just barely underway.
Make it an awesome weekend, with good memories, all right?
Until next time (and week),
