I Got a Little Green, But Didn’t Hulk Out…

How’s it going? I read something today that I thought was really awesome, but it didn’t incite any greenery in me until I got to the bio.

Let’s get to it.

I was sitting here, browsing through the flash fiction that’s published by an e-zine I respect, and that’s emailed to me five days a week.

Anyway, I sat engrossed in this story. I finished it and thought “Wow, that’s really good.”

Then I got to the author’s bio at the end.

She said it was her first flash fiction piece ever, and the first market she sent it to happened to be the one where I read it. A double first.

I was jealous. I admit it. I couldn’t hide it. I’ve had about 10 or so rejections from this same publication this writer submitted to.

But then I realized something. Actually, several somethings:

I didn’t have this woman’s experience or research which led to her idea

I didn’t write in the style that drew the editors to her work

I’m not walking her path as a writer

She’s published novels, which I have yet to do

Did it help me? I hope so. If I had to think about every other writer who’s done things that I haven’t, I’d be too busy to get anything done.

Tomorrow is Triple F. Be sure to stop by.

Until next time,

Ty

About Ty Mall

Thanks for stopping by. I've almost always been interested in writing, among other things. Along with discovering pop culture, I've uncovered a lot about the craft over the past 10 years. And whether you're a fiction writer or email copywriter, I'm here to pass on what I've found out. And have a ton of fun in the process.
