How’s your week been? Things have been a bit of a slog, but I hanging in there.
Let’s get to it.
I was wondering what to post for Triple F, but then I realized that Daylight Savings Time is Sunday (and no, I’m not the kind of nut who wakes up at 2 in the morning to adjust the clock–if you can do that, I applaud your initiative, wakefulness, and other traits I need more of in my life).
Anyway, that’s only here in the Midwest. Well, except for parts of Indiana and all of Arizona, at least.
So, in recognition of this sleep-smashing phenomenon, I decided to use it for Triple F. But I couldn’t use it just as is…nope.
This week’s prompt for Fabulous Fiction Friday is:
Your character wakes up in a universe where the Daylight Savings Time swing is three hours, instead of only one.
And that is what I’d call a nightmare for sure. I don’t know how anyone would adjust–maybe you can put something in your character’s backstory to help them cope. Unless you want them to become better as a result of being in this universe.
With just this plot point, stuff like gender, setting, and what-have-ya will have to be slipped in too.
You’ll also have to discover how they “woke up” here. Potion? Curse? Bad hair day?
Now we fiction.
What if Taylor is late for an important appointment in this universe–maybe an awesome date she hoped would go well, or a job interview? She made sure not to party the night before, but how will she muddle through the day if her interview is 5 minutes from the time she woke up–and it takes her an hour to get where she needs to go?
Or maybe Rob thinks everything will be fine, since he’s an early riser. It’ll be like having an extra three hours in the day to do what he wants, since everything starts and ends three hours sooner or later. How could we march in and mess it up? A fellow traveler who’s not dealing so well? If a bunch of other people are here too, how did they arrive? And who’s sending them?
That’s enough to get the mental snowball rolling down the hill.
March 2018 is about one third of the way over. And it’ll be spring ahead, like I said, by next Monday (at least here in the U.S. where I live).
Make it a great weekend with good memories, all right?
Until next time (and week),
